While the day is considered the saddest in the Jewish calendar, it is followed by the possibility of recovering from difficult times. As rabbi and author Dalia Marx writes, “The month of Av invites us to take a dive into deep water, until we reach the bottom out of breath; only then can we push off the bottom with our feet and start to rise above the waves.”
